Architectural Model for a Music Center
Client: Joe McGrath & Priscilla Fraser
Type: Architectural Model
Material: Acrylic
Technique: Laser Cutting, Laser Engraving, Hand-Crafted Acrylic, Assembly
This architecture model for a music center used a variety of cutting, engraving and assembly techniques. Inspired by the music of György Ligeti's Concerto for Violin and Orchestra, the model needed to create a number of different spaces with distinct atmospheres that could all be visible to viewers of the model. Portions of the entire structure and surrounding buildings could be removed to allow for different vantage points for views and photography. LED lighting was incorporated into hidden panels in the roof and basement of the model. The facades of surrounding buildings were engraved in opaque acrylics. The majority of the structure of the main building was laser cut and assembled from clear acrylics, while interior cables and columns were manipulated and assembled by hand.
